Paint and coatings
The quality of paint and coatings is currently under tremendous pressure from environmental and health legislation. Proven formulations are being changed because the levels of hydrocarbon solvents must be reduced or even totally removed.
The alteration of the solvent package naturally has far-reaching consequences for the overall composition and/or formulation of the paint or coating. Many paints and coatings are, after all, hydrocarbon solvent based.
Not only does the product require a great deal of attention, but the pre-treatment also has to be seen in another light, if the composition and physical characteristics, such as drying, curing, porosity and colourfastness, change.
After application of the coating, noxious fumes may be released during thermal treatments. Historic analyses will have to be repeated because of the changed formulation.
